bowl with tenmoku glaze

Ø 34cm

this is a large bowl made in the same fashion as the 24cm
tenmoku bowl, but with a rim thatīs thicker than the wall,
giving it a sturdy appearance.
the rounded lip is seperated visually from the wall by a step.
tenmoku is a japanese term meaning heavenīs eye.
it originates from the chinese tien mu shan or heavenīs eye
mountain, where there was a chan buddhist temple.
the monks came to japan as missionaries and brought
their teabowls, a black-glazed local variety, with them.
thereby they not only founded zen buddhism but also
a new ceramic ware
